Conference on the future of Europe "The Sound of Europe"

José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, Margot Wallström, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Institutional Relations and Communication Strategy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Member of the EC in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, and Ján Figel', Member of the EC in charge of Education, Training, Culture and Multilingualism, took part to the conference on the future of Europe "The Sound of Europe". The conference took place in Salzburg, the city in which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born exactly 250 years ago. The Austrian Presidency of the EU, together with the European Commission organized the conference. Fundamental questions as to the future of Europe, European values, identity and culture were discussed, so as the unease and scepticism people express about Europe was also addressed, and the underlying causes analysed. More than 300 personalities from the world of politics, science, arts and the media deliberated on prospects and proposals for making progress on the European project in view of global challenges.
