Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Member of the EC in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, and Vladimír Spidla, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities took part at the conference "Joint Action of Member States against Harmful Traditional Practices", organised by the Austrian presidency of the Council of the EU. Vladimír Spidla made a speech. Benita Ferrero Waldner, so as Waris Dirie, UN Special Ambassador against the excision and Founder of the Waris Dirie Foundation against the traditional sexual mutilations, Karin Gastinger, Austrian Federal Minister of Justice, Maria Rauch-Kallat, Austrian Federal Minister for Health and Women and Mouddar Khanja, Austrian Muslims representative, gave a press conference preliminary to the opening of the conference.
