Visit by Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Member of the EC, to Middle East
Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Member of the EC in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy went to Israel and to the Occupied Palestinian Territory. She met Ehud Olmert, Israeli acting Prime Minister, to express Europe's concern for the health of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, to review bilateral relations with Israel and prospects for the peace process after the Israeli and Palestinian elections. She also met Tzipi Livni, Israeli Minister for Foreign Affairs, so as representatives of the EU Election Observation Mission. Another main focus of her trip was the contribution that the EU is making to reconstruction of Gaza following Israel's disengagement.
