First weekly meeting of the Barroso I Commission followed by a press conference

The new Commission met today in Brussels for the first time under the Presidency of José Manuel Barroso. The 25 Members of the Commission included Jacques Barrot, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Transport, Franco Frattini, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Justice, Freedom and Security, Siim Kallas, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Administrative Affairs, Audit and Anti-Fraud, Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Transport, Günter Verheugen, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Enterprise and Industry, Margot Wallström, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Institutional Relations and Communication Strategy, Joaquín Almunia, Member of the EC in charge of Economic and Monetary Affairs, Catherine Ashton, Member of the EC in charge of Trade, Joe Borg, Member of the EC in charge of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, Stavros Dimas, Member of the EC in charge of Environment, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Member of the EC in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, Ján Figel’, Member of the EC in charge of Education, Training, Culture and Multilingualism, Mariann Fischer Boel, Member of the EC in charge of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dalia Grybauskaitė, Member of the EC in charge of Financial Programming and Budget, Karel de Gucht, Member of the EC in charge of Development and Humanitarian Aid, Danuta Hübner, Member of the EC in charge of Regional Policy, László Kovács, Member of the EC in charge of Taxation and Customs Union, Neelie Kroes, Member of the EC in charge of Competition, Meglena Kuneva, Member of the EC in charge of Consumer Protection, Peter Mandelson, Member of the EC in charge of Trade, Charlie McCreevy, Member of the EC in charge of Internal Market and Services, Leonard Orban, Member of the EC in charge of Multilingualism, Louis Michel, Member of the EC in charge of Development and Humanitarian Aid, Andris Piebalgs, Member of the EC in charge of Energy, Janez Potočnik, Member of the EC in charge of Science and Research, Olli Rehn, Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement, Paweł Samecki, Member of the EC in charge of Regional Policy, Maroš Šefčovič, Member of the EC in charge of Education, Training, Culture and Youth, Algirdas Šemeta, Member of the EC in charge of Financial Programming and Budget, Vladimír Špidla, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, and Androulla Vassiliou, Member of the EC in charge of Health, they formally adopted the Commissioners' code of conduct as well as rules relating to the composition of the Cabinets and the spokesperson. They went on to discuss Ukraine.
