Seminar of the next European Commission under the presidency of José Manuel Barroso

The future European Commission met for an informal seminar on the initiative of José Manuel Barroso, President designate of the next EC which will take office on 1 November 2004. José Manuel Barroso, at a working session followed by a lunch, gave a presentation to its 24 colleagues how the college (of commissioners) works and the code of conduct. Talks were also about confirmation hearings which the new commissioners will undergo in various specialised subcommittees of the European Parliament from September 27 on. Most of the commissioners of this new team will be new to Brussels. The only members from the Prodi Commission taking up office in 1999 are Margot Wallström from Sweden, Viviane Reding from Luxembourg and Günter Verheugen from Germany.
