Bernard Foccroulle, General Director of the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, brought to Romano Prodi, President of the EC, a petition which has been signed by scores of well-known European artists. As Bernard Foccroulle explained, the appeal, entitled "For a Europe founded on its culture", aims particularly to flag up the need to give the EU its own joint cultural project, based on the principle of "unity in diversity". He came together with Jan Fabre, visual artist and director, and François Schuiten, cartoonnist and theatre designer.
