Viviane Reding, Member of the EC, at the 57th Cannes Festival

The Cannes Film Festival and the European Commission have organized, for the 2nd consecutive year, a European day, gathering the Ministers of Culture of the EU and the professionals of the film industry. On this occasion, Viviane Reding, Member of the EC in charge of Education and Culture, handed the "New Talents" prize, worth 50000 (euros?) to British Duane Hopkins for "Better Things". This Prize rewards a young professional who developed a feature film project within the MEDIA training program. Also, the day before the European Day, the Ministers of Culture of the EU and Viviane Reding, as a gesture symbolizing the union of Europeans for cinema, climbed the Palace steps together to attend the showing of the first German film in the official competition since 1993: "Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei" (Edukators) from the young Austrian director Hans Weingartner.
