The European Council adopted a resolution on the situation in the Middle-East. They reaffirmed their conviction that a peace settlement should be founded on resolutions 242 and 338 of the Security Council and on:
a) The inadmissibility of acquiring the territories by force
b) The need for Israel to put an end to the occupation of territory maintained since 1967,
c) Respect for the sovereignty of the territorial integrity and independence of each State and region and their right to live in peace within secure and recognised borders
d) The recognition that, in the establishment of just and durable peace, the legitimate rights of Palestinians must be taken into account
The Nine also adopted a declaration on economic growth, inflation and employment, underlining the need for industrialised countries to cooperate in view of achieving sustained expansion of world economic activity compatible with a reduction in the inflation rate and to contribute in this way to the reduction of unemployment.
