Brussels Extraordinary European Council, 17/02/2003

An Extraordinary European Council owing to the crisis in Iraq, was called in Brussels by the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU. Informal meetings between Foreign Affairs Ministers, Heads of State or Government, the President of the European Parliament and the United Nations Secretary General took place beforehand. The Union’s objective concerning Iraq is the total disarmament of the country in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, notably resolution 1441. Moreover, the populations of Europe have manifested that this objective was to be accomplished peacefully. It is nevertheless the last chance for Iraq to disarm and fully cooperate.
