Award ceremony for the Descartes Prize by Philippe Busquin, Member of the EC
In the presence of François-Xavier de Donnéa, Minister President of the Brussels-Capital region in charge of the supervision of local powers and scientific policy, Philippe Busquin, Member of the EC in charge of Research, awarded the Descartes Prize which rewards international research teams.
The jury responsible for the selection of the winners was made up of personalities well know in the international sphere, principally Yves Michot, former chairman and managing director of Aérospatiale Matra; Ulf Merbold, German astronaut; Ben Mottelson, Nobel prize winner for physics. The winners were Jan Balzarini, researcher at the “Rega Institute for Medical Research” of the Catholic University of Louvain and Michael North, researcher in chemistry at “Kings College”, London.
