Ceremony in honour of the American victims of the terrorist attacks
The General Affairs Council decided, following a joint initiative of Guy Verhofstadt, Belgian Prime Minister and President in office of the Council, and Romano Prodi, President of the EC, that Friday, 14th September 2001 would be a European day of mourning for the victims of the terrorist attacks in the USA. It also decided that a 3-minute silence should be observed at 12.00 noon (Brussels time).
