Visit of José Bové, spokesman of the Farming Confederation, to the EC
During his visit to Pascal Lamy, Member of the EC in charge of Trade, José Bové spoke out in favour of French producers affected by American customs sanctions. The spokesman of the Farming Confederation asked for compensation for producers of Roquefort, one of the sixty European products surcharged up to 100% since August 1999 by the United States. Washington applied these retaliatory measures because of the European Union's refusal to import American beef with hormones.
