Signing of an agreement on Chernobyl between the CEC, Belarus, Russia and Ukraine

Six years after the devastating accident at the Chernobyl nuclear plant, the CEC is entering into an agreement with the three republics of the Commonwealth of Independent States most closely concerned. With institutes in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, the Commission intended to carry out an extensive programme to study the nature of the radioactive contamination resulting from the accident, to broaden the technical skills needed to control such accidents in the future and to improve emergency management procedures.
