Award ceremony for the René Descartes Prize by Philippe Busquin, Member of the EC
Philippe Busquin, Member of the EC in charge of Research, awarded the René Descartes Prize, which rewards teams of international scientists. This European science prize is valued at 660,000 euros. The jury responsible for selecting the prize winners was presided by Yves Michot, former President-Director-General of Aerospatiale Matra, and was made up of personalities well known in the international arena; notably: Sirkka Hämäläinen, Member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank; Jean Stéphenne, President-Director-General of SmithKline Beecham; Ulf Merbold, German astronaut; Ben Mottelson, Nobel Prize winner for physics.
