The Cotonou Agreement

On 23 June 2000 in Cotonou, Benin, the European Community and its Member States signed a new twenty-year partnership agreement with 77 ACP states (Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific). The aim of the Cotonou Agreement is to reduce poverty and is based on political dialogue, development aid and strengthened economic and commercial co-operation.
