First meeting of the Committee for the Monetary Union of Europe

Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, former President of France, and Helmut Schmidt, former German Federal Chancellor, set up the Committee for the Monetary Union of Europe in 1986, within which they are holding the position of co-Chairmen. The Committee comprises 17 Members from 12 different countries members of the European Community (politicians, bankers, businessmen). The Committee published in July 1988 the "Action Programme", the propositions of which have served as a basis for the work of the Delors Committee between July 1988 and April 1989. Jacques Delors, President of the CEC, was leading the the Committee.
