Press conference by Gaston Thorn, President of the CEC, on the results of the Maastricht European Council

Gaston Thorn, President of the CEC, gave a press conference following the European Council which took place from 23 to 24/03/1981 in Maastricht. The European Council dedicated a large part of the meeting to a detailed and in-depth study on the current situation in the European Community, monetary policy and the problem of growing unemployment rates, particularly among young people. The Council also discussed the accession of Spain, North-South relations, the European passport, the Middle East, Lebanon, Afghanistan and Poland.
