First meeting of the Ortoli Commission

On 6 January 1973 the CEC met for the first time under the Presidency of François-Xavier Ortoli. Wilhelm Haferkamp, Vice-President of the CEC in charge of Economic and Financial Affairs, Credit and Investments, Sir Christopher Soames, Vice-President of the CEC in charge of External Relations, Patrick Hillery, Vice-President of the CEC in charge of Social Affairs Henri Simonet, Vice-President of the CEC in charge of Taxation and Financial Institutions, Energy and the Euratom Supply Agency, Carlo Scarascia-Mugnozza, Vice-President of the CEC in charge of Parliamentary Affairs (in conjunction with the President), Environment Policy, Protection of Consumer Interests, Transport and Information, Albert Borschette, Member of the CEC in charge of Competition, Personnel and Administration, Jean-François Deniau, Member of the CEC in charge of Development Aid, Budgets and Financial Control, Ralf Dahrendorf, Member of the CEC in charge of Research, Science and Education, the Joint Research Centre, the Statistical Office, Scientific and Technical Information and Information Management, Altiero Spinelli, Member of the CEC in charge of Industrial and Technological Policy, Cesidio Guazzaroni, Member of the CEC in charge of Industrial and Technological Affairs (other than steel), Financial Institutions and Taxation, Finn Olav Gundelach, Member of the CEC in charge of Internal Market and Customs Union, George Thomson, Member of the CEC in charge of Regional Policy, and Petrus Lardinois, Member of the CEC in charge of Agriculture, were among the Members of the CEC who attended the meeting.
