Manuel Marín was Vice-President of the CEC in charge of Social Affairs and Employment, Education and Training from 05/01/1986 to 05/01/1989 and Vice-President of the CEC in charge of Cooperation and Development and Fisheries from 06/01/1989 to 05/01/1993. After this he was Vice-President of the CE in charge of Cooperation and Development (Economic Cooperation with Southern Mediterranean, Middle East, Latin America and Asia; Lomé Convention) and the European Community Humanitarian Office from 06/01/1993 to 06/01/1995. From 23/01/1995 until 06/03/1999 he was Vice-President of the EC in charge of External Relations with the Southern Mediterranean Countries, the Middle and Near East, Latin America and Asia (except Japan, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan), including Development Aid. He became Member in office of the EC from 06/03/1999 to 19/07/1999 and finally took on the functions of the President in office of the EC from 19/07/1999 to 16/09/1999.
