Edinburgh European Council, 11-12/12/1992

The European Council met to discuss the main problems on the EC agenda. Prior to the meeting, Members of the European Council and the President of the European Parliament exchanged views on the different points on the agenda. The European Council found solutions to a great number of important questions essential for accomplishing progress in Europe. The main questions were as follows: - The problems raised by Denmark in light of the result of the Danish Referendum of 2 June 1992 on the Treaty of Maastricht - The direction to be taken for establishing the principle of subsidiarity and the measures necessary to increase transparency and openness in the EC decision making process - Financing EC action and policies for the rest of this decade - Beginning enlargement negotiations with a number of EFTA countries - Establishing an action plan by Member States and the EC to promote growth and combat unemployment Furthermore Jacques Delors, President of the CEC, received the distinction "Doctor Honoris Causa" from the University of Edinburgh.
