Brussels European Council, 29-30/03/1982, and commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome

The European Council commemorated the 25th Anniversary of the Signature of the Treaties of Rome, by remembering the importance of the contribution of the EC for the last quarter century, in achieving the objective of economic and social progress in the Member States. Participants underlined the importance of progress obtained on the path to union, in spite of the world’s economic difficulties of the past ten years. The European Council confirmed its will to continue on the road to greater economic integration and dedicated most of the meeting to discussing the economic and social situation on the basis of the EC report. The European Council of Brussels examined the state of relations between Member States and Latin American and Caribbean countries. Participants also expressed their concern over the prolonged conflict between Iraq and Iran, which poses a serious threat to stability in the region. Lastly, the Council had an in-depth discussion of the development of economic relations between the EEC and the United States.
