Brussels European Council, 05-06/12/1977

The European Council of Brussels met under the Presidency of Léo Tindemans, Belgian Prime Minister, and the participation of Heads of State and Governments of EC Member States. The European Council noted that, although the results obtained in the fight against inflation and the improvement of the balance of payments are considerable, the expansion of demand is insufficient and the utilisation of industrial capacities very low and that, for these reasons, everything must be put in place to produce the economic growth strategy approved by the Council of Ministers of Finance and Economy on 17 October 1977. In addition, the Council has decided the introduction of the European counting unit in the Communities’ budget from 1 January 1978. The Council also spoke of FEDER, the election of the European Parliament, the European Union and judicial cooperation.
