Rome European Council, 01-02/12/1975

The European Council exchanged views on the evolution of the economic and social situation in the Community, it reaffirmed the need to maintain close coordination among the economic policies of Member States, in order to consolidate the emerging economic pickup and to improve the current level of employment. The European Council examined in detail the problems relating to community expenditure and the budgetary policy of the Community. The Council agreed upon the need for more efficient financial control of community expenditures. The European Council convened that the election of the European Parliament would be held on a single date, in the course of May-June 1978.
