Visit of Fred Sinowatz, Austrian Federal Chancellor, to the CEC

Jacques Delors, President of the CEC, Willy De Clercq, Member of the CEC in charge of External Relations and Trade Policy, Frans Andriessen, Vice-President of the CEC in charge of Agriculture and Forestry, Alois Pfeiffer, Member of the CEC in charge of Economic Affairs, employment, Credit and Investments and the Statistical Office, and Lord Francis Arthur Cockfield, Vice-President of the CEC in charge of Internal Market, Customs Union Service, Taxation and Financial Institutions, received Fred Sinowatz, Austrian Federal Chancellor, and H.E. Ambassador Manfred Scheich, Head of the Mission of Austria to the EC. The Austrian Delegation participated in a round table meeting, under the chairmanship of Jacques Delors, with several members of the Commission. Given that Austria then held the presidency of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Council, EC-EFTA relations and, in particular, the follow-up to the Luxembourg Declaration, formed a major topic for discussion. On the bilateral front, discussions touched on a wide range of subjects including economic and trade relations, cooperation in the field of science and technology and relations in the transport and environment sectors. The two sides also took this opportunity to exchange views on the international economic environment and developments in the world trading system.
