Gaston Thorn, President of the CEC, Wilhelm Haferkamp, Vice-President of the CEC in charge of External Relations including Nuclear Affairs, François-Xavier Ortoli, Vice-President of the CEC in charge of Economic and Financial Affairs, Credit and Investments, Etienne Davignon, Vice-President of the CEC in charge of Industrial Affairs, Energy, Euratom Supply Agency, Research and Science and the Joint Research Centre, Emile Noël, Secretary-General of the CEC, and Leslie Fielding, Director general of the DG "External Relations" of the CEC, received Zhao Ziyang, Chinese Prime Minister, Zhang Jinfu, Chinese Member of the State Council and Chairman of the State Economic Commission, Chen Chu, Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese State Council, Qian Qichen, Chinese Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jia Shi, Chinese Deputy Minister for Economic and Foreign Trade Relations, Tao Siju, Chinese Deputy Minister for Public Security, and H.E. Ambassador Zhang Shu, Head of the Mission of China to the EC. Discussions touched among others subjects: the world policy and the economic circumstances, and the development of the bilateral relations between the Community and China.
