Setting-up of a high-level working panel on the free movement of persons

On the initiative of Pádraig Flynn, Member of the EC in charge of Employment and Social Affairs and the Relations with the Economic and Social Committee, Mario Monti, Member of the EC in charge of Internal Market, Financial Services and Financial Integration, Customs and Taxation, and Anita Gradin, Member of the EC in charge of Immigration, Home Affairs and Justice, Relations with the Ombudsman, Financial Control and Fraud Prevention, the Commission has decided to set up a high-level working party on the free movement of persons, to be chaired by Simone Veil, Former President of the EP, and Former French Minister for Health, Social Security and Urban Affairs and the City. Before the end of 1996 the working party was to draw up a report on all the problems and difficulties (of legal, administrative and practical nature) encountered by citizens when exercising their right to work and settle in another Member State.
