Presentation of the Nominees and Laureates for the European Inventor Award 2012

The following inventors were nominated for the European Inventor Award 2012: - In the category "Non-European countries", John O’Sullivan, Terence Percival, Graham Daniels, Diethelm Ostry and John Deane (from Australia), for inventing the Wireless LAN for high speed data transfer (award winners); Federico Capasso and Jérôme Faist (from the USA) for inventing the Quantum cascade lasers (QCL). - In the category "Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)", Farouk Tedjar and Jean-Claude Foudraz (from France), for the invention of a Method for recycling batteries. - In the category "Research", Gilles Gosselin, Jean-Louis Imbach and Martin L. Bryant (from France) for the invention of a new drug for hepatitis B treatment (award winner); and Jason Chin and Oliver Rackham (Australia) for the invention of a Re-engineering protein synthesis. - In the category "Industry": Hugo Katus (from Germany) for the invention of a Blood test to diagnose heart attacks; Jaap Haartsen (from the Netherlands) for the invention of the Bluetooth technology. - In the category "Lifetime achievement", the winner is Josef Bille (from Germany) for the invention of a device for laser eye surgery.
