The aquatic center of Levallois

When wastewater from the shower, dishwasher, or washing-machine is drained into the sewer-pipes, it is not just a waste of water, but also a waste of the energy used to heat that water. In fact the water temperature in city water pipes is of an average of 20°. Most of the time this heat energy is wasted, however the aquatic center of Levallois located in the Parisian suburbs makes use of this energy to heat its swimming pool. To that end, several stainless steel plates have been placed in the bottom of the sewer pipes. These plates contain a special liquid which collects heat and heat the swimming pool water.
