At death’s door: 2 million Congolese children need urgent help
Since 2009, EU Humanitarian Aid has spearheaded a response to nutritional crises in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), in collaboration with emergency partners who have expertise in this field. “An estimated 2 million children in the DRC are suffering from severe acute malnutrition,” says EU health expert Dr. Amparo Leiseca. “Not even 20% of them are being treated. The others are on the verge of dying.” Dr. Amparo travels to DRC’s remotest areas to work with partners on setting up quality treatment programmes for these children.
