30 November 2017:10th anniversary of the death of François-Xavier Ortoli
The 30th of November marks the 10th anniversary of the death of François-Xavier Ortoli. Born in 1925 in Ajaccio (Corsica, France), he has occupied the position of Director General of DG III "Internal Market" of the Commission of the EEC between 1958 and 1961, prior to holding several posts in the French government between 1967 and 1972, notably as Minister for the Economy and Finance and Minister for Industrial and Scientific Development. In 1973, he was appointed President of the CEC until 1977. Following his mandate as President of the CEC, he pursued his career within the institution in the quality of Vice-President of the CEC in charge of Economic and Financial Affairs, Credit and Investments and the Statistical Office, within the Roy Jenkins' Commission between 1977 and 1981, and Vice-President of the CEC in charge of Economic and Financial Affairs, Credit and Investments, under Gaston Thorn's presidency between 1981 and 1984.
