On 29 November 2017, Jyrki Katainen, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness, and Phil Hogan, Member of the EC in charge of Agriculture and Rural Development, gave a joint press conference on the Communication on "The Future of Food and Farming". The EC adopted on the same day this Communication, outlining the ways to ensure that the oldest EU common policy remained future-proof. Simpler rules and a more flexible approach would ensure the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) delivered real results in supporting farmers and led the sustainable development of EU agriculture. The flagship initiative aimed at allowing Member States greater responsibilities to choose how and where to invest their CAP funding in order to meet ambitious common goals on environment, climate change and sustainability.
