Press conference by Jan Kinšt, Member of the European Court of Auditors, on the wine sector

On 1 July 2014, Jan Kinšt, Member of the European Court of Auditors, presented to the press in Brussels his special report (No 9/2014) on the questions posed in its title, “Is the EU investment and promotion support to the wine sector well managed and are its results on the competitiveness of EU wines demonstrated?” This report found that the need for a specific measure of additional investments in the wine sector is not justified since such support already exists in the framework of rural development policy. The report questions the role grants from the EU for the promotion of wines, which are often used to consolidate markets rather than to win new or recover old ones.
