Participation d'Androulla Vassiliou à la cérémonie de remise des prix du concours de traduction 2014 "Juvenes Translatores"
On 8 April 2014, Androulla Vassiliou, Member of the EC in charge of Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, presented awards to Europe's best young translators in Brussels.
The 28 winners of the European Commission’s annual Juvenes Translatores contest for young translators received their trophies.
More than 3 000 pupils aged 17 from schools in each EU country sat the contest. They had two hours to translate a one-page text on European citizenship in any of the 552 language combinations possible from among the EU’s 24 official languages.
In total, they used 157 combinations this time, the highest to date. The results were marked by Commission translators. One winner was selected for each EU country.
The ‘Juvenes Translatores’ (Latin for ‘young translators’) contest is organised every year by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Translation. Its aim is to promote language learning in schools and give young people a taste of what it is like to be a translator. It is open to 17-year old secondary school pupils (for those born in 1996 in the case of the 2013-2014 contest) and takes place at the same time in all selected schools across the European Union. The contest has encouraged some entrants to take up language studies and to become translators.
