On 20 January 2014, a High-Level International Meeting on Humanitarian Action in the Central African Republic took place in Brussels. During this meeting, nearly half a billion dollars was pledged, as donors rallied to help the stricken country in response to a dramatically deteriorating situation. A new overall figure of humanitarian assistance was announced at the meeting of €150 million, together with a further contribution of nearly €200 million in stabilization and development funds. This brings total support pledged at the meeting to €366 million, equivalent to $496 million. This video shows the opening session with the participation of Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Valerie Amos, UN Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Nicholas Westcott, Managing Director for Africa in the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Pascal Canfin, French Minister Delegate to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, in charge of Development.
