On 28 October 2013, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, visited the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva, Switzerland. He praised the humanitarian workers of the ICRC and highlighted the important cooperation between the European Commission and the ICRC. During his meeting with Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the President of the EC congratulated the ICRC on its 150th anniversary and emphasised that the ICRC is an essential partner of the European Commission in the field of humanitarian aid.
