Press conference by Androulla Vassiliou on Erasmus figures 2011-2012

On 8 July 2013, Androulla Vassiliou, Member of the EC in charge of Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, gave a press conference in Brussels to present the annual Erasmus statistics published by the European Commission. The first Erasmus students - just over 3 000 young people from 11 countries - left to study abroad in 1987. The latest figures for the 2011-12 academic year show that more than 250 000 students benefited from the hugely popular exchange programme, which covers all EU countries, as well as Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey.
