Press conference by Siim Kallas on annual figures for road deaths for all EU countries

On 19 March 2013, Siim Kallas, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Transport, gave a press conference following the publication by the EC of the new statistics on road safety, which reveals that 2012 saw the lowest number of people killed in road traffic in EU countries since the first data were collected.On this occasion, Siim Kallas presented the EU Road Safety Programme 2011-2020, which sets out challenging plans to reduce the number of road deaths on Europe's roads by half in the next 10 years. It contains ambitious proposals focusing on making improvements to vehicles, infrastructure and road users' behaviour.
