Agriculture and rural development - Spring 2010

1088 views

European agriculture is a key sector of the European economy. And the Common Agricultural Policy is one of the major European policies. The CAP has been reformed continually since its creation. It has been adapted to respond to the challenges of time. Today’s CAP follows on from the 2003 reform, following on from Agenda 2000. In the future, agricultural techniques must adapt to the effects of climate change. More must be produced, with less. The scarcity of natural resources must be managed. Consumers must also be offered ever safer, healthier and more varied products. In order to illustrate these new challenges in the European Agriculture, the Audiovisual Services of the EC have produced a series of stockshots on Agriculture and rural development, and the stockshots of this first series entitled: "Agriculture and rural development - Spring 2010", containing the following images of: - olives, Spain and Greece (Crete); - vineyards, France and Romania; - sugar beet, Germany and France; - rape seed oil, Germany; - hops, Czech Republic; - flax, France; - fruit, Spain; - tomatoes and lettuce, Spain; - classes in organic agriculture, Spain; - citrus fruit, Spain; - fruit market, Sweden; - flower production, The Netherlands; - whiskey products, Ireland and Scotland; - beer products, Czech Republic; - livestock, Spain; - agro-tourism, Ireland; - cattle mart, France; - Aberdeen "Angus" cattle, Scotland; - foie gras products, France; - pig products, Sweden; - regional specialities, ham, Spain; - regional specialities, pork, France; - regional specialities, cheese, Greece and France; - dairy farm, Ireland; - and aquaculture, Ireland.
