Extracts from the read-out of the weekly meeting of the Juncker Commission by Kristalina Georgieva and Valdis Dombrovskis on the economic decisions of the EC
On 27 May 2015, Kristalina Georgieva, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Budget and Human Resources, and Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice-President of the EC in charge of the Euro and Social Dialogue, gave a joint press conference on the conclusions of the weekly meeting of the Juncker Commission which was held on the same day. The European Commission proposed a 2016 EU budget of €143.5 billion in payment credits to support the recovery of the European economy and help improve lives in Europe and beyond. The money would be invested to boost innovation, create jobs, help convergence among Member States and among regions, deal more effectively with migration and further strengthen the role of the EU as a global player. The proposal also included contributions to the European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI), which was at the heart of the Investment Plan for Europe. This draft presented by the EC would be sent to the European Parliament and EU Member States who would jointly decide on the final budget. The College of the EC also held an orientation debate during its weekly meeting on measures to make corporate taxation fairer, more growth-friendly and transparent. It was agreed that a new EU approach to corporate taxation was needed to successfully address tax abuse, ensure sustainable revenues and foster a better business environment in the internal market. This video shows extracts of Kristalina Georgieva's statements.
