Commissioner Šemeta underlines importance of good information exchange in tax matters
"It is incredibly important that Member States are able to collect tax revenues they are due, especially in this time of economic difficulty. To this end, the EU must step up its fight against tax fraud and tax evasion, and continue to lead the campaign for good governance which implies a reinforced cooperation on exchange of information".
This is the key message of the speech delivered by Taxation Commissioner Algirdas Šemeta at an event organised by the Belgian Presidency and the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium) on International Fiscal Data Exchange today.
The EU will also continue to promote good governance and information exchange internationally, and particularly amongst the EU's closest neighbours and partners. The Commissioner underlined the importance of a coherent EU approach to relations with third countries on the issue of information exchange, over and above any bilateral agreements that might be signed by Member States.
