Excellent cooperation, impressive work and great results during the Irish EU presidency


In the European Parliament debate on the Irish Presidency and the MFF, President Barroso applauded the dedication of the Irish team and the resulting successes.

"We have made further progress in updating the EUs architecture to the pressures of the 21st century economy, showing that we have learned the lessons from the crisis."

'No deal was more important than the political deal reached on the MFF last week. The Commission fought hard for a budget that is workable and manageable, the President said.

He expressed his hope that Parliament would support the deal: "Our initial proposal was more ambitious, but the final outcome respects those principles, maintains the necessary balance and keeps the basic structure of the initial proposal intact."
