To move from policy development to implementation, it is crucially important to have the capability to test new approaches and to demonstrate how different policy solutions can be successfully applied in different contexts. This is why LIFE, the EU’s funding instrument for the environment and climate action is so important. Since 1992, LIFE has in four complete phases of the programme contributed approximately €3.1 billion in co-financing some 3954 projects across the EU, providing important guidance and leadership on the development and implementation of EU environmental policy.
The current LIFE mutiannual work programme for 2014-2017 was adopted by a Commission Decision on 19 March 2014. It sets the framework for the next four years for the management of the new LIFE Programme 2014-2020 and features an indicative timetable for the calls for proposals for action and operating grants, as well as for the two pilot financial instruments covered by it. The total budget for funding projects amounts to €1.46 billion.
The annual call for proposals under LIFE+ is announced on the LIFE website in May each year.
