Today is my last day in office at the European Commission.

Over the years, I have met a lot of people – people who have inspired, encouraged, and energised.

In fact over 5 years in digital policy there have almost been too many to thank. But that is what I would like to today.

The European app industry (representing 19% of global app economy revenues) is significant, sophisticated and ever growing. As Vice-President Neelie Kroes pointed out during Digital Action Day 2014 “Five years ago I could not have spoken about an "app economy" because it did not exist. Today I can talk about 1 million apps; 2 million jobs; worth almost 20 billion euros – in the EU alone.”
