Commissioner Hahn trusts Romania to take swift action through EU cohesion policy

Commissioner Hahn is in Bucharest on 23 September to meet the Romanian President Traian Basescu, Prime Minister Emil Boc and several Ministers responsible for the implementation of cohesion policy. In particular, he will hold talks with Leonard Orban, the newly appointed Minister for European Affairs.

The Commissioner will outline the key challenge facing Romania: to accelerate the use of EU investment allocated for 2007-13 under cohesion policy (EUR 19.7 billion). Commissioner Hahn will call on the Romanian authorities to take all kind of adequate measures to ensure a proper use of EU funding, in particular in the fields of transport, education and environment. Cohesion policy provides a stable, secure, targeted source of financing that can be used to boost economic growth.
