On 25 and 26 June the 9th Meeting of People Experiencing Poverty will take place in Brussels.
The event brings together delegates from 23 Member States and Norway and gives people who are experiencing poverty the opportunity to engage in a constructive dialogue with Members of the European Parliament, representatives of national governments, European Commission, NGOs and academia about national and European policies that impact on their daily life. This year’s event is called “2010 – Starting point for a new deal” and is organised by the European Commission, the Spanish Presidency of the EU and the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN).
During this 9th EU meeting, the delegations of people experiencing poverty will discuss and present their 10 years Action Plans for fighting against poverty. It is hoped that the ideas that emerged from this exercise can be taken up in the final declaration from the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, demonstrating how the involvement of those directly concerned in the search for solutions to lift people out of poverty and exclusion can improve the effectiveness of social policies.
