On the invitation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) commemorates International Anti-Corruption Day at a joint press conference today, Monday, 8 December, in Brussels (at 11h00, International Press Centre Résidence Palace, Maelbeek room).

The press conference, in celebration of tomorrow's International Anti-Corruption Day, takes place with the participation of Mr Antonio Maria Costa, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Mr Franz-Hermann Brüner, Director General of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and Mr Martin Kreutner, Director of the Austrian Federal Bureau for Internal Affairs (BIA) and President of the European Partners against Corruption (EPAC), an association of National Police Oversight Bodies and Anti-Corruption Authorities in the EU.

The aim of the International Anti-Corruption Day – every year on 9 December – is to raise awareness of corruption and the role the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) has in combating and preventing it. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is the guardian international body concerned with the implementation of this International Convention.

This year the European Anti Fraud Office (OLAF) is taking part in this annual UN campaign on the invitation of UNODC and following the participation of UNODC after the UNODC has joined in the OLAF's Anti-Fraud Communicators' Network (OAFCN). On 4 December the UNODC representative was officially welcomed at a meeting of this Network of spokespersons of OLAF's operational partner services in the EU-Member States in which Eurojust, Europol and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) participate as well
