An exchange of experience and a further strengthening of international co-operation were the main focus of a two-day conference on "Fraud and Aid Funds" in Brussels. The event finished today in Brussels and had been organised by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) for the second time.

The "Second Seminar on Fraud and Aid Funds", was opened on Thursday by European Commission Vice-President Siim Kallas. Participants from all over the world - public prosecutors, auditors, police and investigations officers, government representatives, legal experts and officials - convened in Brussels to share their experience in investigations and in co-ordinating with different international donors and investigative bodies.

One of the topics discussed was the added value of OLAF in this area. Participants also took note of a speechAll available translations. recently delivered by Belgian Advocate General Francis Desterbeck analysing, in particular, OLAF's relationship with the judiciary. Mr Desterbeck concluded that OLAF investigations can indeed make a difference for the national criminal justice authorities.
