THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF OLAF REPLIES TO THE EUROPEAN OMBUDSMAN ABOUT THE BLUE DRAGON CASE

Press Release OLAF/05/2004, 19 March 2004

On Thursday, 18 March 2004, OLAF submitted its detailed opinion in response to the draft recommendation of the European Ombudsman in the so-called "Blue Dragon" case.

The opinion states that OLAF has reflected on each of the five points listed in the Ombudsman's draft recommendation as concerns the adequacy of the inquiry carried out by OLAF, and has, as the Ombudsman recommended, considered whether its investigation should be re-opened or a new inquiry should be opened.

On the basis of its analysis, OLAF has concluded that the points raised by the Ombudsman do not call into question the adequacy of the inquiry and therefore there are no grounds for re-opening its inquiry or opening a new inquiry.
