Today,
8 July 2002 in accordance with Regulation (EC)
No. 1073/1999, the European Anti-Fraud Office
(OLAF), has forwarded to the Procureur de l'état
of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg information
obtained by the Office during two investigations
into matters liable to result in criminal proceedings
concerning possible frauds regarding contracts
concluded between Eurostat - the Statistical
Office of the European Communities and private
companies. OLAF has carried out these two investigations
in the framework of a number of investigations
undertaken into Eurostat.
OLAF wishes
to make it clear that information obtained in
the course of its investigations is protected
by the relevant Community and national provisions.
It follows that any further comment by OLAF
about investigations until these have been concluded
would be a breach of the law by OLAF.
