On Friday 16 November, the 22nd OLAF Anti-Fraud Communicators' Network (OAFCN) meeting took place at the Albert Borschette conference centre (CCAB) in Brussels. The agenda included a presentation on "Communication with NGOs" by Transparency International, investigative journalism by a renowned journalist from the International Herald Tribune, communicating on EU anti-fraud policy by Lothar Kuhl, along with a regular exchange of best practice in the field of anti-fraud communication by OLAF's counterparts in the Member States.
At a conference of fraud prosecutors in Berlin on 8-9 November, the German Federal Minister of Justice Ms Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger expressed support in her opening speech for the establishment of a European Public Prosecutor's Office for the protection of financial interest of the EU.
On Thursday 27 September, OLAF Director-General, Mr Kessler, visited the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Mr. Boyko Borissov, in Sofia, to discuss the cooperation between OLAF and the Bulgarian authorities, and also the possible establishment of a European Public Prosecutor's Office. They held a joint press conference for Bulgarian journalists in the Granite Hall at the Council of Ministers.
On 5 June 2012, the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and Italy's Guardia di Finanza signed an Administrative Cooperation Arrangement. The arrangement offers new and targeted means of international cooperation, intended to combat the most recent and dangerous types of fraud.
The Director General of OLAF, Mr. Kessler, visited Hong Kong where he had meetings with representatives of various government departments and institutions including the Hong Kong Police, the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Hong Kong Department of Justice. During his visit he also participated in the 5th Symposium organised by the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) entitled "Old Challenge, New Approach: Fighting Corruption in a Changing World".
The Central Bureau of Investigation of the Polish Police organised, in the framework of the Pericles Programme, the “Euro North East III. Meeting of European Counterfeiting Experts”.
On Friday 11 May, the 21st meeting of the OLAF Anti-Fraud Communicators' Network (OAFCN) took place at the Centre de Conférence Albert Borschette (CCAB). About 40 (spokesperson or communication) representatives from OLAF's counterparts (from police, customs, and judicial authorities) in the Member States participated.
The OLAF stand at the EC Open Day was a great success! Visitors had the opportunity to take part in a detective quiz, learn to detect fake euros, be photographed as a "fraud fighter"and learn more about counterfeit cigarettes.
The European Commission/OLAF and the “Fiscalia General de la Nacion” of Colombia jointly organised the Pericles Programme Technical-Tactical Training: Strengthening the protection of the euro in investigations. The Seminar was hosted in Medellin (Colombia) from 28 to 30 March 2012 with the aim to provide Colombian law enforcement with technical and tactical training on the protection of euro banknotes and coins against counterfeiting.
